The Florrie

Last night, The Florrie tried to get 100 players to play at their Tuesday guitar group but 197 turned up and it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. They did three songs, with somebody different leading them each time, and they were Be Bop A Lula, Dirty Old Town and Ticket To Ride. Nearly 200 people, many of whom had never met each other, all strumming along and smiling their heads off. Kids playing alongside musicians from bands like Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Rain and Oasis and all for the love of music. After a walk up to Dingle, passing all kinds of shiny new developments and after a day seeing people crying or celebrating over the rush to buy Eurovision tickets as Liverpool's thrust into the spotlight for music yet again, it was refreshing to see something at the heart of a community where music really thrives. I can't wait to see what sort of excitement unfolds over the coming months across the city but last night reaffirmed (like it was ever needed) how important the grass roots music scene is important to the modern city. Hats off to Timo, Anne, Laurence, Lee and everyone at the Florrie
